From the time they’re just the germ of an idea, our products are lovingly brought into the world by a dedicated team of engineers, scientists, and more. Many of those efforts are overseen by our talented professionals in product management, including Susan Chung, senior global product manager at Quantabio. Based in Maryland, she joined the company more than four years ago and has been making a difference for our customers ever since.
Q: What do you do at Quantabio?
A: I began with a focus on the growth of the sparQ NGS portfolio, and now I also oversee the AccuStart and repliQa products as well as one of the eQo products. My goal is to understand the market for these products and portfolios. I also collaborate with cross-functional teams within the company to expand the reach of our current products and to develop new products that might be attractive to the market.
Q: What brought you to the company?
A: My time at Quantabio is pretty much defined by how long I’ve been a mom. I was attracted by the family energy that really showed how close-knit the team was. The team is really collaborative and everybody’s willing to help each other out. The people here are incredibly knowledgeable and happy to share their expertise.
Q: What’s the best thing about your job?
A: It’s never dull! Every day I’m doing something different, so that keeps it exciting. I also like the small and the big wins. One of the biggest wins is seeing an idea become a product, and then seeing that product become successful in the market.
Q: What do you wish more people knew about Quantabio?
A: The high-quality products and the support that goes along with them. On top of the reagents, we have a great support system for the customers. The team is very customer-centric during product development and also after a product hits the market.
Q: Fill in the blank: Better reagents lead to ______.
A: Happy customers. There are a lot of back-end activities to make sure the customer experience is positive and it’s definitely a team effort. Having happy customers makes us a happy team.
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
A: I like hands-on crafting. I really enjoy cross-stitching and I’ve sewn toys for my kids. More recently I’ve been into making royal icing cookies. The kids love rolling out the dough and decorating the cookies, so it’s a good activity to do with them. It gets a little messy but there are a lot of yummy treats at the end.
Q: What’s your ideal vacation?
A: I’m a planner, so before having kids I used to take a lot of international and domestic trips where I planned everything to a T. But with the kids I try to minimize the planning. We still travel but it’s more cruises or resorts where we can get out in a new environment without all the usual travel stress.
