In this blog series, we’re giving readers a peek behind the Quantabio curtain to meet the great team responsible for developing our products and keeping customers happy. We caught up with Heather Meehan, General Manager, who came to us in 2012. She holds a PhD in molecular chemotherapeutics from the University of Minnesota as well as a BS in biology and chemistry and a mini-MBA from the University of St. Thomas.
Q: What do you do at Quantabio?
A: I head up the global business and manage the overall corporate strategy. I oversee contract negotiations, supply agreements, and all business development relationships. I’m also a key player in defining the product roadmap and bringing on new technologies.
Q: What brought you to the company?
A: I was really drawn by the customer-first mindset of the company. A prime example of this is our ability to develop customized solutions for the unique needs of our customers. We are all about delivering the best solution for the best possible outcome, and finding the right answer for every customer even if it’s not something we have on the shelf.
Q: What’s the best thing about your job?
A: My team. We’re like a family. We have cultivated a group that’s really diverse with eclectic backgrounds, but we all share a similar mindset about putting the customer first. We collaborate really well and our diversity breeds creativity and great results.
Q: What do you wish more people knew about Quantabio?
A: The customization capabilities and capacity that we have. We have really strong R&D and applications teams that are extremely creative and capable. They’re always thinking about how we can better service our customers’ workflows to eliminate challenges.
Q: Fill in the blank: Better reagents lead to ______.
A: A better scientific outcome. That “garbage in, garbage out” rule applies not just to the sample itself but also to how you treat the sample.
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
A: Kickbox! I’ve always been an avid exerciser. I started kickboxing about 20 years ago and it’s my favorite workout. It’s a great whole-body workout that is uniquely suited to relieve stress.
Q: What’s your ideal vacation?
A: Eco adventures. My whole family likes to hike and explore. We love adventures in general and if they tie into nature, even better. We just took a 10-day trip to Bonaire, which is known as the shore diving capital of the world. We spent a lot of time underwater, seeing beautiful fish and a lot of coral. It was like diving in an aquarium.
