2023 in Review: A List of Favorites

We can’t believe that 2023 flew by so quickly. Here we are, well into the holiday season, and looking back on our favorite events, launches, social media campaigns, and more. Join us as we reminisce — and feel free to let us know about your own favorites before the year slips away.

Favorite Event (Spoiler: It’s a Tie)

It was too painful to choose just one! After a year of great conferences and scientific meetings, the ones that really stayed with us were the annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics in November and the Gene Quantification Event in March.

These meetings represent both ends of the meeting spectrum. ASHG is big, loud, and quite a whirlwind. The Gene Quantification meeting attracts about 500 people, giving attendees a chance to catch up in more depth with familiar faces year after year. What they have in common is outstanding science. Gene Quantification is more focused on PCR and sequencing-based applications, while ASHG captures a much broader swath of the life sciences. For both meetings, this year’s program, networking events, and exhibit halls really stood out as the best of the best.

Favorite Social Media Campaign

If you’ve been following Quantabio’s social media channels this year, this selection will come as no surprise: it’s the #WhereIsQburt campaign! Our team had so much fun giving out plushies of Qburt, our chameleon mascot, to scientists near and far. But clearly, those scientists had just as much fun perching Qburt in some fun-filled environments and posting their own photos to social media. For each one, Quantabio donated $10 to the Wildlife Conservation Society. Having fun while doing good? Yes, please!

Favorite New Website Feature

We hope our U.S. customers will agree that the best new feature on our website this year is the Quantabio webshop, which for the first time enabled direct purchasing of our products We greatly appreciate our distributors and our products will consistently be sold, serviced, and supported through our trusted partner channels. If you’ve already used the new shop, we hope it was a great experience (and if not, please tell us why). If you haven’t tried it yet, please consider it for your next purchase. We think it should streamline the ordering process for many of our customers.

Favorite People on the Planet (Also a Tie)

It was a tough choice to rule out the members of our favorite sports teams, bands, and TV shows. But it was well worth it to narrow things down to our unquestionable favorites: Quantabio customers and the Quantabio team!

To our customers, we are so grateful to you. We appreciate your business, and we recognize your commitment to performing great science with the most robust and reliable tools out there. Your impressive accomplishments inspire us every day to develop better products and pave the way for new applications.

As for the Quantabio team, we count ourselves lucky to work with people who never make it feel like work. Our team is as close-knit as a family, and we have so much respect for each other. We know that’s a rarity in business and we appreciate it all the time.

Favorite New Product

Well, OK, of course it’s going to be one of our products. (I mean, if we didn’t love our products the most, we really shouldn’t work here, right?) Earlier this year we have added a new product to our RNA Library Prep solutions and launched the sparQ mRNA-Seq Kit for efficient preparation of stranded mRNA-seq libraries for Illumina® NGS platforms. It delivers reliable mRNA-seq libraries from as little as 5 ng and up to 1 μg of total RNA, and minimizes hands-on time with a streamlined workflow. The product generates high-quality, directional mRNA libraries that are consistent and have reduced bias. If you are working with human, mouse or rat samples, make sure to check out the sparQ RNA-Seq HMR Kit for ultra fast RNA library prep (4.5 hours!), and integrated rRNA & globin depletion.

Favorite New Blog (Aww, You Shouldn’t Have!)

We launched our Quantabio blog this year and we have deeply appreciated the great response from the community. Our goal is to celebrate great science, raise awareness of important topics, and have a little fun … not necessarily in that order. To all of our readers, thank you for checking us out and for coming back to read new content as we post it. It’s an honor to spend a little time with you each month.

We hope that you find just as many favorites as you look back on your own memories of 2023. From the entire team at Quantabio, we wish you all a happy holiday season!
