It’s not enough to develop and commercialize great scientific products — you have to let people know about them, too. We count on Mathias Christoph, associate director of marketing, to help raise awareness of Quantabio’s portfolio of products for PCR, qPCR, and NGS workflows. Based in Düsseldorf, Germany, he draws on his background in molecular biology and biochemistry to understand what customers want to know.
Q: What do you do at Quantabio?
A: It’s a very broad spectrum that I cover. My main responsibility is tactical marketing, which involves a lot of execution with the different marketing tools we have. I also help to maintain and update our website, creating new pages and elements as needed. I manage our CRM tool, support tradeshows, and take part in some product management work.
Q: Do you enjoy having such a big range of responsibilities?
A: It is fun because it gives me the chance to learn and improve all the time. I enjoy it more than having just one regular schedule every day. It gives me flexibility in my job and really expands my knowledge in all these different areas. I like having challenges in new areas where I have no idea how things work, such as learning to code to work on the website.
Q: What brought you to the company?
A: During my graduate studies I was often using Quantabio kits. It had already been clear to me that I wanted to pursue a career in industry rather than academia, so when a position opened I thought it would be a good fit.
Q: What’s the best thing about your job?
A: Interacting with the people here. Everyone at Quantabio is great. I’ve been lucky to build out friendships with the team and I like to let them know they can rely on me to help get things done.
Q: What do you wish more people knew about Quantabio?
A: The great portfolio of products that we have for different applications. During COVID-19 testing, our products were recommended for the CDC testing protocol. There are so many different applications you can do with Quantabio products.
Q: Fill in the blank: Better reagents lead to ______.
A: Reliable results, easy reagent setup, and reduced hands-on time which frees up more time for a better work/life balance.
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
A: I like to try out new kinds of food. I’m not shy when it comes to trying weird things others may call disgusting. I also enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes.
Q: What’s your ideal vacation?
A: Getting to know new places, not necessarily the really touristy spots but discovering the country. Most of my vacations have been in Europe, and my last far-away vacation was to Thailand. I’d like to get to Japan and see more of the U.S. too.
